Completed in 1886, St. Joseph’s Cathedral was one of the first structures built by the French colonial government and is the oldest church in Hanoi. The neo-Gothic style of the church was modelled after the Paris Cathedral. Even now, Mass is still held inside several times a day.

This is arguably one of my favourite places to spend some free time admiring its architecture, and after, visiting the nice shops and cafes around the area. Being right in the centre of Hanoi makes it really accessible.

There’s no reason not to pay this place a visit – you don’t need to be of the faith to fall in love with its architectural details and rich history.

The church is open to all visitors all day. I love observing the crowd at prayer times. It’ll bring you an inner sense of serenity and peace.

If art and details are what you fancy, you’d absolutely love this place for its design elements. When I was just a schoolgirl, I used to come here for design inspiration. Fast forward to today – I’m currently a graphics designer and am still in awe of its beauty.
