Nestled in the heart of Wong Tai Sin, Nan Lian Garden offers a place of refuge from the urban sprawl. This garden is perfectly hidden, even a local Hong Konger may not know of this garden’s existence.

Built in the style of the Tang Dynasty, this public park is meticulously landscaped with Chinese timber, rocks and potted plants. Each object is placed with careful thought to ensure tranquillity.

Tip: The neighbouring Chi Lun Nunnery does a wonderful vegetarian Yum Cha.

Just when you think you’ve seen all of Hong Kong, you wander into one of the prettiest and most peaceful gardens you will ever encounter.

The tranquillity of a natural garden is juxtaposed with towering high-rise apartment complexes in the background. This is a real sanctuary for your senses and one of my best-kept secrets in Hong Kong.

The connecting Chi Lin Nunnery is worth a visit. It is currently the world's largest handmade wooden building.

Chi Lin Nunnery was constructed entirely with cypress wood, without the use of any nails.
