Is craft beer in Singapore peaking in 2019? With the recent explosion in number of bars that focus on the magical liquid and local boys moving from home brewing to brewing for discerning consumers, we’d have to say, yes. Whether you love craft beer or want to find what the heck it’s about, any one of these 26 bars, restaurants, and hawker stalls on our list will do nicely.

1. Sixteen Ounces 

The watering hole for westies, Sixteen Ounces is located at the chill end of The Rail Mall, towards what is left of the Green Corridor. Look forward to eight regularly rotating craft beers on tap and over 40 bottled and canned craft beers and ciders from different parts of the world on offer, paired with local fusion delights from the kitchen.

2. BUNKERBUNKER

Escape the cascading bombs of life at BUNKERBUNKER, tucked away in Deck, located in the artsy Prinsep district. Kick back and relax with their various bottled and canned craft beers on offer, serving good vibes along with occasional art and design pop-ups. Watch their Instagram to get updates on sub-cultural events they’re hosting and other promotions.

3. Orh Gao Taproom  

Aptly named after the coffeeshop moniker for Guinness Stout, Orh Gao Taproom is a celebration of Singapore’s kopitiam heritage, reliving the heartwarming ‘kampung’ atmosphere and neighbourly vibes with every pint. Traditional lively coffee shop by day and cosy bar at night, get your fill of comfort food like Chunky Mackerel Otah Sandwich ($7) with their rotating tap list of 10 beers.

4. The Guild

A project by Hong Kong’s highest rated and largest independent craft brewery, The Guild on Keong Saik Road highlights small-scale, artisanal producers, brewers, and distillers. Featuring 19 beers – and one G&T – on tap, it’s hard not to pull up a chair and settle down with a cold one in their cushy shophouse front. Happy hour now starts at noon!

5. The Good Beer Company 

As the name suggests, The Good Beer Company offers good beer and nothing less. With eight beers on tap and an incredible selection of bottled and canned beers, this is the place to go for beer enthusiasts and novices alike.

6. Burger Joint 

Burger Joint might be known for serving quality burgers, but did you know that they also boast 18 craft beers on tap to complement those tender patties? With hole-in-the-wall vibes, complete with graffitied bathrooms, the Burger Joint makes for a great casual meet-up location.

7. Smith Street Taps 

Situated in a hawker centre, Smith Street Taps is the epitome of unpretentiousness, where lip-smacking beer can be enjoyed with hearty local fare. Equipped with an international selection of beer with prices starting from $9 a pint, it’s not surprising they’re doing a roaring trade here most nights. Read more here.

8. Almost Famous 

Almost Famous is a sleek and modern bar that strips away the unnecessary fuss and fads, bringing all our attention to our glasses. Expect tasty pints starting at $14, hosting a range of local and international brews. Don’t miss out on their bar bites as well, offering the likes of Luxurious Fries ($16) – truffle fries with caviar – and Fried Salad ($10).

9. Pink Blossoms Brewing

Ccelebrate beautiful things in life with a pint at local brewpub Pink Blossoms Brewing. Offering the likes of Milk Stout and Juicy Pale Ale, these freshly brewed beers are a perfect accompaniment to chilling at their tasting room – which also hosts various local art pieces.

10. 3rd Culture Brewing Company 

Have a cold pint with your favorite hawker delights at 3rd Culture Brewing Co. which has two outlets located in Singapore’s best hawker centres – Maxwell Food Centre, which hosts twelve rotating beers on tap, and Old Airport Road Food Centre, which has ten rotating beers on tap.

11. Nickeldime Drafthouse 

With 15 beers on tap, along with bottled beers and ciders available, Nickeldime Drafthouse is a great place for beer connoisseurs who really know their stuff and for amateurs to learn more about craft beers. Don’t miss out on their 1-for-1 weekday deals at their River Valley outlet, like their 1-for-1 Pizza deals available every Monday.

12. Red Dot Brewhouse

With one outlet in vibrant Boat Quay and another in the verdant environs of Dempsey Hill, Red Dot Brewhouse is one of the best-known microbreweries in Singapore. You’ll find a Czech pilsner, Kölsch-style and wheat beers on tap, as well as their eye-catching Monster Green Lager, which gets its green hue from spirulina.

13. Tap Craft Beer Bar

Tap Craft Beer Bar has a selection of 20 international drafts that get switched around from time to time, to complement a food menu that rotates along with the beers. Now opened in One Raffles Link and Robertson Quay, you can conveniently grab one of their fresh $10++ pints after work, plus on weekdays you can enjoy free flow nachos with every purchase.

14. Freehouse

There are no strangers at Freehouse, especially after you’ve tasted beers from all 16 taps. Make yourself at home at this Boon Tat Street bar with a rotational craft beer or from the long wine and whisky list or pick a set with their beer paddle of four. Pair them up with some pub fare – it’s good vibes only when you sit down at Freehouse.

15. LeVel33

If you’d like a wicked view with your craft beer, look no further than LeVel 33. Located in the Marina Bay area of our CBD, it’s no wonder that this micro-brewery is such a hit with the after-office crowd, with one pint at $13.33 before 8pm ($17.33 thereafter). There are six beers on tap, five signatures and one seasonal, and our favourite is definitely the India Pale Ale.

16. Hustle Co. 

Located on Craig Road in Tanjong Pagar, Hustle Co., sports 12 taps of craft beer in a three-story shophouse. Come Friday, you can enjoy your beer while a live band serenades you through the night.

17. Takumi Craft Beer Bar 

For your Japanese craft beer fix, Takumi in Mandarin Orchard Hotel is the place to go. While there are staples such as the Hitachino Nest White Ale (from $9.50) and Shiga Kogen Pale Ale (from $10.50), they focus on limited edition and barrel-aged offerings and often have tap takeovers and seasonal rotations. Start your night early with happy hour till 9pm.

18. Paulaner Brauhaus 

This hop-friendly restaurant prides itself on being genuinely authentic, from the interior design to the Munich food specialities. In keeping with the rich tradition of excellent, unadulterated Bavarian beer, their micro-brewery ensures that steady flow of magical liquid is always tapped fresh with lots of fizz.

19. Little Island Brewing

Tucked away in Changi Village, have your beers by the sea at Little Island Brewing Co, featuring originals, brewer’s specials, wines and spirits for your drinking pleasure. With a number of craft lagers on tap brewed in small batches, the do-it-yourself self-pour system allows you to sample as much as you want, as prices are measured in volume of beer you’ve poured.

20. Malthouse 

If you’re in need of some good grub to go with your beers, try the Malthouse on East Coast Road with its menu chock full of hearty dishes that match the 12 craft beers on tap. Bring down your friends to share a pizza on Tuesday, where pizza nights mean a whole pizza is priced at just $10 nett!

21. Mikkeller 

For a taste of adventure, head down to Mikkeller, a brainchild of ‘gypsy’ brewer Mikkel Borg Bjergsø in Denmark. The Singapore branch stocks brews brought from the original ‘gypsy’ brewery in Copenhagen, where the company operates through collaborations with other brewers to produce recipes and one-off experiments. The one place in Singapore for the full Danish hygge experience.

22. Brewerkz 

One of the largest breweries in the region since 1997, Brewerkz is the place to be for American-styled food paired with handcrafted beers. With three outlets located in all corners of the island – the central Orchard outlet, their scenic Riverside outlet, and a more tucked away outlet at the Singapore Indoor Stadium – it’s the perfect place to meet especially during sport seasons.

23. Good Luck Beerhouse

Fan of local beers? Head down to this craft beer and dim sum bar in Haji Lane – an unlikely combination that just seems to work for Good Luck Beerhouse. With half of their taps reserved exclusively to Singapore craft beers, together with bottles and cans of over 50 varieties of bottled craft beers, ciders and alcoholic beverages, this nifty nook is perfect for tourists and locals alike.

24. Druggists 

Housed in an 80-year-old shophouse and serving up Asian-inspired eats, Druggist is the place to be for craft beers and to fix your Asian food cravings. There is a whopping list of 23 craft beers on tap (usually on rotation), and you can mix and match your favourites with bar bites like chilli crab cheese sticks.

25. JiBiru

Many of Japanese artisanal beers brought in by JiBiru utilises ingredients and processes of sake and shochu making in the beer production, so expect different taste profiles from the American and European craft brews you’re used to. And when the munchies kick in, you can look forward to delectable yakitori to go with your craft beer.

26. The Cider Pit 

Craft beer may not be the first thing on The Cider Pit’s list of beverages (with cider obviously taking top spot), but this pub along Joo Chiat Road has some of the best prices – particularly for UK ales and ciders. Drinks start from $5 for half-pints, with a seasonal menu that’s shouted out on their socials every change, and watch their Facebook for the frequent buy two get third free promos on bottles.
