Oh, Smorgasburg. As it turns out, “Smorgasburg is the largest weekly open-air food market in America, attracting 20,000-30,000 people to Brooklyn each weekend to eat from 100 local vendors – Saturdays on the Williamsburg waterfront and Sundays in beautiful Prospect Park.”

So it’s totally a thing. But very much so a thing you should venture to. It’s a bit chaotic, as any largest weekly food market would be, but what it lacks in serenity, it makes up for in delicious food options. Lots and lots of options.

Tips:

1. Embrace the chaos: Listen, you’re not going to cruise right through this situation. It’s a madhouse and that’s okay! Just go with the flow. No need to sweat.

2. Bring cash: Lots of vendors do take cards and there is an ATM on-site but sometimes machines are not our friends.

3. Come hungry: You are here to eat.

4. But don’t come hangry: “Hangry is a clever portmanteau of hungry and angry, and an adjective that describes being irritable due to hunger.” You want to make the most of so many vendors, but you don’t want to come in with a bad attitude. That’s not fun for anyone.

5. Bring a light blanket: There are tables but with just about everyone in attendance trying to eat and therefore sit down, your options are limited – hence the blanket.

 

Don’t panic. There is enough food for everyone.
