Most travellers come to Phuket for the beaches. However, I would recommend you to learn how local people in Phuket live. They mostly live in the centre and eastern parts of the island.

Phuket’s Old Town consists of several old buildings regarded as Sino-Portuguese styled buildings.  Wandering around this area will give you a glimpse of how the locals’ daily life is. I would suggest you start the walking tour at a little alley called Soi Rommanee. ‘Rommanee’, meaning ‘Pleasure’, is a street of pleasure business in the past. Most of the Peranakan homes are very colourful, painted in bright colours e.g. yellow, pink, orange, and light blue.

Some old houses have been renovated into boutique hotels, restaurants, cafes, and tea houses. Spending a night in the old town would be not just a great experience, but also a great support to local community here. Also, you will enjoy taking photos with the buildings, doors, windows, cafes, and cool graffiti around this area.

Tip: You can rent a Vespa or vintage cars to take photos around this area. That would be fun and you’ll get unique photos back home. Also, Torry's ice cream parlour on Rommanee road offers a variety of ice cream flavour and serves great tea.
