Apong Guan has been at Jalan Burma for so long, his stall is almost a landmark. Since he began his business 49 years ago, he has been operating in the same spot, and still draws snaking queues.

The waiting time for his apongs, which have a pancake-like texture, is generally estimated at 25 minutes, largely due to the multiple orders per person – it’s that good! Don’t let that deter you though. Guan always has random jokes on hand to keep his customers entertained. I particularly enjoy his jabs at politics.

Just a note of caution – be prepared to order more than originally intended, especially when you observe the other patrons in front adding on their orders! I almost always walk away with at least 2x more.

There will always be crowds gathered around Apong Guan at all hours of the day. We just cannot get enough!

Skillful Guan in action.

The apongs only come in one flavour – a mix of thinly sliced banana and sweet corn.

I usually finish the whole bag within 5 minutes of receiving it. Best eaten fresh!
