Wholesome and clean, organic and fresh. These are the words that come to mind when I think of Plants, a plant-based, gluten-free eatery that was established in the East District of Taipei in 2016. It is my go-to spot for a light and healthy lunch with friends.

Don’t be lulled into the false thinking that you are paying too much for a few kale leaves. People seem to have the misconception that vegan food is boring and bland. Well, wait till you savour the absolutely delicious offerings at Plants that will make us carnivores second-guess our lifestyle and eating habits for the duration of the meal – who knew vegan food could be this good?

From baked sweet potato fries with beet ketchup to chia seed pudding, there are plenty of options to choose from.

There are quite a few smoothie selections on the menu. This dragon fruit cocoa smoothie tastes healthy and delicious.

Acai bowl, kale salad, roasted sweet potato fries are three of my must-orders here!

It’s very hard to find places serving hummus – a Levantine dip or spread made from cooked, mashed chickpeas blended with tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, salt and garlic – in Taipei, and Plants serves one of the best versions in town!

Chia seed pudding is high in omega-3s, which is healthy for your heart, and loaded with antioxidants, fibre, and protein.
