Located in San Francisco’s Ferry Building is Hog Island Oyster Co., one of my favourite restaurants in the city. While I prefer to shuck my own oysters at the Hog Island Oyster farm two hours north of San Francisco, the Ferry Building restaurant is the next best thing. On a nice day, opt to sit outside and enjoy your meal, looking out at the Bay and the Bay Bridge.

At Hog Island, oysters – served raw, grilled or fried – are the main event, but also try their famous chowder filled to the brim with fresh seafood. Enjoy your meal with freshly baked bread and a refreshing cocktail from the bar.

Come early and get a seat at the oyster bar to watch the shucking magic happen.

Thousands of fresh oysters are harvested seasonally from the Hog Island Oyster Farm north of San Francisco.

Order a dozen (or two!) fresh oysters and try the unique flavours found in each variety.

Order a bowl of creamy seafood chowder for something warm, delicious and filling.

After filling up on oysters, exit the restaurant through the back and check out the shops in the Ferry Building.
