Outside of Mexico, San Francisco has some of the best Mexican cuisine in the whole world, and it’s one of my favourite things about living in the city. You can find authentic, delicious Mexican food in almost every neighbourhood, but the best place to go is the Mission District.

While I love the many hole-in-the-wall taquerias that line The Mission’s streets, I go to Loló on Valencia Street for a more elegant, California-inspired take on Mexican food. This colourful restaurant melds the flavours and style of Guadalajara, Mexico together with a thoughtful and modern menu, using fresh local and seasonal ingredients. I recommend ordering several dishes to share, so you can get a variety of flavours that the menu offers. And don’t forget to order a side of their famous guacamole to go with their homemade tortilla chips – a true Mexican classic!

Escape from the hustle and bustle of downtown San Francisco in the quiet, tavern-inspired restaurant.

Start with the Petaluma devilled eggs for a delightful appetiser before your meal.

The fried chicken is the most popular dish on the menu for its simple yet flavourful (and perfectly crispy) skin and juicy meat.

Come in for a drink at the bar and enjoy a handcrafted cocktail.

Find Wayfare Tavern amongst the towering skyscrapers in the Financial District.
