Whether I’m with my sister or my best friends, sitting down at a bistrot and watching people pass by is one of my favourite thing to do in the city, and it could actually be considered a national pastime by many locals.

The plan? Pick a busy non-touristy street, find a bistrot terrace, squeeze at one of those small tables, wear a pair of large sunglasses and just watch the flow of people. From admiring impeccably dressed women to spotting adorable dogs, and even imagining conversations between people, the show is definitely in the streets.

I usually sit back and enjoy the show with a café au lait and the traditional bistrot breakfast – two baguette toasts with some salted butter.

A classic bistrot terrace near Jardin du Palais Royal.

Café Charlot’s generous breakfast includes bread, soft-boiled eggs and indulgent croissants.
