Have a splashing time even after the sun sets at Sundhöll Reykjavíkur

Icelanders love to go swimming all year around! It's a part of our culture to go swimming during all seasons, and a classic tradition for many locals is to have a hot dog or ice cream afterward. 

We love our swimming pools so much so that almost every town and village in Iceland has their own public pool for locals and visitors to exercise, relax in the hot tubs and meet other people.

So why not join the locals in Reykjavik's oldest swimming pool, Sundhöll Reykjavíkur? Located just above the main street, Laugavegur, it's only steps away from the busy downtown area.

It was opened in March 1937 and was designed by state architect Guðjón Samúelsson, who also designed buildings such as The University of Iceland, The National Theatre of Iceland, The Church of Akureyri and the famous Hallgrímskirkja church, which can be seen from the sundeck.

In 2017 the pool was renovated and now has its very own outdoor pool, more hot tubs, and an ice bath! Sundhöll Reykjavíkur is truly the perfect place to experience a true Icelandic tradition.

 

Almost all Ice-landers have gone to this pool and both of us have fond memories here.
