If you enjoy hiking, you must visit the Papandayan Mountain, a stratovolcano located in Garut Regency, West Java, in the Cisurupan District. From its peak, it is 2,665 metres above sea level. The nearby dead forest has made this mountain a popular attraction in Indonesia as it offers a beautiful scenic view.
Don’t be afraid of taking on this mountain. You won’t get too tired as the paths here are at a comfortable incline for travelling on foot. For those who tire easily or prefer not to hike, you can hire a Gojek motorcycle ride from the manager stationed there. There are also a variety of stalls selling food and drinks.
To get to the crater, you will need approximately 30 minutes. The dead forest, however, demands more time and effort—taking about 2-3 hours to reach. Blooming with Edelweiss flowers, the Pondok Salada camping ground is located directly above the dead forest.
Tip: Grab a few friends and go camping on the Papandayan Mountain for a fun and unforgettable hiking experience.
