I am a big fan of Purana Indonesia, an accessible fashion brand infused with Indonesian local wisdom. They make their own textiles and it is very comfortable. That is why I was excited to hear that they have extended their fashion business to hotelier. I imagined the design must be cool and the bedding must be very comfortable. The boutique hotel called YATS Colony finally opened in Yogyakarta in early 2017.

YATS is not an abbreviation, but is simply STAY spelled out in reverse. They intended to make it a place to gather and stay like a family. No wonder I always feel home once I step into the lobby! There are lots of open-air spaces to sit down with a cute, artsy background that makes you instantly want to take a snap.

The hotel has 35 rooms, one restaurant, one meeting room, and of course, a Purana Indonesia boutique. All the buildings are painted white with minimalistic architecture style, as are the rooms. The two-storey hotel is surrounded by lush greenery with a lagoon pool in the centre.

Since YATS Colony is a space that circles around a collaborative and co-living spirit, each room is made up of custom and environmentally-responsible design from recycled materials, hand-selected opulent upholstery, tie-dye bedding handmade locally by Purana Indonesia, plush pillows by Semak Studios, and original artwork by an emerging Indonesian artist, Sarkodit. Although the hotel area is not vast, they have strategically placed communal lounges that are comfortable enough to reach even wearing my pyjamas.

What I imagined is true. It is a cool place to stay and very comfortable. I also really appreciate that they collaborate with local artists
