Take a trip down Memory Lane’s Sunday Market

Flea markets offer a peek into the life of the local working-class community and the rich culture they represent, beyond the curated displays found in touristy galleries and museums.

 

On Sundays, the laneway is closed to traffic, and the market becomes a treasure wonderland—featuring everything from antiques to hardware to second-hand knick-knacks.

 

Take it slow and scan the stalls thoroughly as you never know the kind of gems you might unearth here. And when you do, don’t be afraid to haggle as it is welcomed, and in fact a part of the fun here!

 

Some of my favourite items found here include a 60-year-old brass kebuk laksa (the mould to make noodles), authentic kopitiam tableware, 1920s’ Jacko compass, centuries-old coins and vintage black and white photos.

If you're up for some good conversation, take this chance to interact with the vendors. These friendly folks have been living here for a very long time—so imagine the tips you could get from these locals!
