Find out what your future holds at Wat Chalong

‘Chalong Temple’ or ‘Wat Chaiyatararam’ is one of the most revered temples in Phuket history because one of the abbots in the past named ‘Luang Por Chaem’ was the leader and the one who encouraged local people to fight against the Chinese secret society called ‘Ang-Yi’ during the tin-mining period. Fortunately, local people live in harmony now. 

 

The stupa in the temple area is where Lord Buddha’s relics are kept. Inside, ceilings are decorated with fresco paintings that tell stories of Lord Buddha. There are 3 floors, so you can explore the whole stupa and get to see the top view from the 3rd floor.

 

The central temple is where local people come to gain merit by offering lotus flowers to Buddha images. Some prepare gold leaves or gold papers to be attached to the images. You can also try throwing ‘Siem-Si’ or fortune sticks. When you get one stick with the number, you can just pick up the prediction paper of your future. Most predictions will lead you to do good and behave well for a better future. 

 

Locals always come to Wat Chalong to pray, while international travellers and expats come here to appreciate Thais’ belief for Buddhism.

 

Tip: Please dress appropriately when you go to religious places in Thailand. This is to show respect to local people. Do not dress in outfits that are too revealing. Shorts and sleeveless shirts are not recommended.
