Ipoh is synonymous with limestone outcrops. By climbing up these precipitous cliffs, visitors here get to burn the calories from scarfing down all that sinful food for which the town is well known.
Gunung Lang Climbing Park promises to get visitors’ blood racing by offering over 20 routes of varying difficulty levels, perfect for all kinds of climbers.
Not to mention the spectacular scenery that the area has to offer. I chose to climb with Ventrex here, an award-winning outdoor recreation operator that provided a thrilling yet safe excursion.
There are two types of packages available: the fun climb or the full-day climb.
I chose the former, which was indeed fun yet challenging at some points. The session started with a short briefing, which included instructions on how to use the belay device that controlled the rope when climbing.
Then, it was time to ascend the rocky wall. I found it relatively easy to maintain the grips and locate gaps at the beginning of my climb, but once my thighs got sore and my fingers started to hurt—the test began. Would I do this again? 100% YES.
Pro tip: Dress lightly as the humidity can be a tad overwhelming at times. But other than that, all climbing equipment, as well as climbing shoes, will be provided by the operator.
