There is nothing more comforting than a piping hot bowl of porridge eaten with a variety of dishes. Goldleaf Restaurant was founded in 1971 and has been serving mouth-watering dishes that reminds everyone of home. Goldleaf Restaurant is not without a strong heritage either. Many diners fondly remember its distinctive entrance, fitted with red doors and gold knobs, inspired by its Taiwanese roots.

Many dishes also have a history behind its origins; the sweet potato porridge served with the dishes can be traced back to the hard times in the ‘30s and ‘40s, while the pomfret with black bean sauce was served only on special occasions.

My family makes it a point to dine at Goldleaf Restaurant once every few months because food is best shared with the people you love, and it is also a great way for us to interact while eating at the same table.

Taiwanese porridge is like somewhere in between Teochew muay and congee. I love my porridge with sweet potato as it lends a nice subtle sweetness to it.

The Traditional Shrimp Rolls remind me of Teochew ngoh hiang, which was crispy on the outside and crunchy within. Dip the pieces into the accompanying sweet sauce for that extra oomph factor!

I always order minced pork whenever I’m having porridge. The Steamed Minced Pork at Goldleaf Restaurant comes topped with salted egg yolks.

This is another dish that Goldleaf does exceptionally well. The pork belly was tender and had absorbed the wonderful flavours from the delicious marinade.

Since Goldleaf Restaurant is essentially a Taiwanese restaurant, they also serve oyster mee sua. Very comforting!
