"A flock of fireflies lighting up the night sky creates an unparalleled visual spectacle." - KOCIS
Every so often, Mother Nature gifts us spectacles that excite and feed the soul. Wonders of the World aside, Korea's Muju Firefly Festival is the epitome of such a phenomenon. Launched in '97, the festival is held near natural marshes in Muju where the fireflies flourish best (fun fact: these creatures of curiosity can only survive in the cleanest of surroundings). While it's possible to catch a glimpse of the three different species of fireflies during the festival, a trip to the valley at an additional 5,000won gets you a surreal experience of seeing thousands of fireflies lighting up the night sky. Other activities include camping, water fireworks, exhibitions, workshops, performances and more.
