Aman is one of the most luxurious hotel brands in the world. These resorts are renowned for their breath-taking locations, locally inspired architecture, and ultimate privacy. There are 5 Aman resorts in Indonesia. Amanjiwo is the only one located on Java Island – close to Borobudur. Oh, did you know that the founder, Adrian Zecha, is an Indonesian?
Going to Amanjiwo does not feel like going to something luxurious. The road is small, passing through some villages, paddy fields, and farms. I had to ask some villagers in order to find Amanjiwo, as the signpost is not visible. Maybe this is what they call a hidden paradise! The resort merges with the surrounding nature beautifully.
Framed by emerald-green rice plains and the peaks of the Menoreh Hills in rural Central Java, Amanjiwo lies within view of the mystical stupas of Borobudur.
All 36 freestanding suites radiate in two crescents of Amanjiwo’s central rotunda.
It is a temple-like hideaway with a towering domed roof, colonnades and walls built of local blush-beige paras stone.
Each suite is decorated with sungkai-wood screens, coconut-wood and rattan furniture, antique batik cushions and Javanese glass artworks. It features sunken bathtubs and thatched-roof bale pavilions and opens onto private gardens and most of the suites have private 8-metre-long pools.
Many international celebrities have stayed in Amanjiwo. David Beckham and Richard Gere are some of them. Oh, I wish I had met them!
