A little more of a drive out from the centre and into the countryside of outer Auckland, you'll find the spectacular Hunua Falls. It will take you a little under an hour to get there, but it is a pretty drive once you are off the motorway. On your way there, you will get to see some of rural New Zealand as you pass farms and smaller suburbs.
In summer, you may pass a few strawberry farms, where you can stop and experience a real fruit ice cream too. The falls are only a short walk from the carpark, so it is accessible for all abilities and ages. Be sure to pack something to eat and drink as there are no dining options out here. You can enjoy your picnic on a grassy bank in front of the falls.
People do swim in the water here, so also pack your togs if you fancy a dip. If you want to see something a little more out of town and a beautiful natural sight then this spot is for you. You will need to have a car to head out and visit this site.
