Tong-in Market, located west of Gyeongbukgung Palace (a 10-minute walk from Gyeongbukgong Station) is a fun way to see and explore traditional Korean markets.
Like most of these traditional markets, most shops are food-oriented, but what is unique about Tong-in market is the quirky approach to buying food and snacks.
You exchange cash to receive a lunchbox tray and a set of tokens (brass coins used in the past) at the entrance. Then you use those tokens to pay for your food as you walk around the market. The fried tteokbokki is a must-try while you’re there!
