Relaxed, affordable and authentic, you probably won’t find this restaurant in many other guides. Though the interior isn’t exactly pretty, the terrace – being perched on a hill – offers one of the best views over Paris.

Located above Rue des Abbesses in the village of Montmartre, this restaurant is a non-touristy spot, despite being in a very touristy area. The menu offers the best French classics in a non-pretentious way. The roasted potatoes and steak tartare are heavenly – if you’re into raw meat – and come in generous portions.

However, it would be a shame not to save room for dessert. Being French, I have a sweet tooth for pastries and Le Relais de la Butte doesn’t disappoint. From a massive traditional crème brûlée to seasonal desserts like rum baba, you won’t leave the place with an empty stomach. Don’t miss a stroll around the neighbourhood after, even if just to discover the quaint streets of Montmartre.
