If you are an eco-conscious person, you should stay in Greenhost Boutique Hotel. It is the greenest hotel in Yogyakarta, where the building has lots of creeping vines that you can’t miss from afar.

This hotel is committed to operating in a sustainable and responsible way – both for the environment and the local community. They called the design Agricrafture, combining both agriculture and craftsmanship under one roof – two things Yogyakarta is well known for.

The lobby area is dominated by wooden pallets from packing containers. There is no air conditioning, but you won’t feel hot due to the good air circulation. If you look up from the atrium, you will see how green this five-storey hotel is with more than 10,000 hydroponic pods decorating entire corridors.

Walk up to the rooftop to see their creative farming that delivers fresh cabbage, spinach, mint, basil, as well as other herbs and vegetables, straight to your plate. And remember to visit Art Kitchen for a vegan-friendly meal!

Their 96 rooms are differentiated by artist design and incorporate various upcycled materials so every time I stay there, I always get a different experience. 80% of the hotel is not painted, so you can see floors without tiles. Their slippers are carefully handcrafted by the local women living in the outskirts of Yogyakarta.

You should also check out their Green Art Space that is specifically designed to cater to the exhibition of local artists’ works, creative projects, and visual initiatives. No wonder I always feel good every time I stay here!
