One of my favourite neighbourhoods in San Francisco is the Mission district. Its shops, restaurants and people are as colourful as the murals that line its streets. I recommend spending a whole afternoon in the neighbourhood, where you’ll find the some of the most interesting parts of San Francisco threaded throughout the streets.

Start the day with coffee and pastry from one of the many coffee shops on Valencia Street, then head down to Clarion and Balmy Alley to admire the artwork. If you’re lucky, you might even see an artist at work, painting a new piece on the wall. Then walk down to 18th Street to see the Maestra Peace Mural at the Women’s Building.

Continue walking down Valencia and visit the local boutiques for some of the best shopping in the city – Paxton Gate and Everlane are two of my favourites. You won’t have to wander very far or long before coming across street art as it’s practically on every block in the Mission.

Wander down Clarion Alley and admire the colourful street art.

Watch local artists at work, creating their latest masterpiece.

Admire the three-story Maestra Peace Mural at the Women’s Building on 18th Street.

Walk through the alleys with beautiful murals that grace the walls.

Enjoy the bursts of colour on the buildings while exploring the neighbourhood.
