Spring is en route, and while we’d usually take ourselves somewhere more temperate to see cherry blossoms or fields of wildflowers, we’re more likely than not spending it at home this year. That doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy beautiful floral arrangements and colourful flower-filled activities – here are some places to go and things to do to make it feel a little more like spring.
Gardens By The Bay
You can’t deny that taking pictures amidst a sea of flowers sounds pretty awesome. Lucky for us, Singapore has a ton of places where we can make that happen. Gardens by the Bay is a classic — its Flower Dome is a 1.2 hectare behemoth featuring flowers from five different continents in nine different gardens. This year, its extra-special lineup includes the auspicious Dahlia Dreams to ring in the Year of the Ox from 15 Jan to 21 Feb 2021. If you miss it, fret not — the month of March brings with it the Sakura Matsuri, where you can frolic among sakuras and enjoy a Japanese spring. If that’s not enough, head over to Floral Fantasy, where an amalgam of live plants, cut flowers, foliage, and preserved flowers create a whimsical and immersive landscape. SRV-eligible tickets are available on Klook and Trip.com; UOB Cardmembers can score some additional discounts too.
National Orchid Garden
For something a little more open and breezy, the Singapore Botanic Gardens is the perfect destination. This lush sanctuary houses innumerable plants and flowers, offering a nature-filled respite from the city. For a garden that’s as much a feast for the nose as the eyes, head down to their Fragrant Garden. These aromatic blooms are also said to attract beautiful butterflies, so keep your eyes peeled! Get introduced to our national flower at the National Orchid Garden as well. Featuring bursts of over 1000 species of the orchid, opt for the SRV-eligible walking tour of the National Orchid Garden available on Klook for a visually pleasing and informative session. To make a day of it, Trip.com also offers you a four-hour guided tour of the Botanic Gardens, including a visit to the National Orchid Garden.
Bougainvillea Garden
The humble bougainvillea — a beloved flower we normally see on the streets and sidewalks — is paid homage to in the beautiful Bougainvillea Garden at East Coast Park. Take in a riotous explosion of colour by the seaside: the perfect location for a chill day out or a picnic at the beach. The garden is located in Area F of the park (next to carpark F2).
The Daily Blooms
Flowers are always a good way to go whether you’re looking to spruce up your own home, or a thoughtful gift to liven up someone else’s day. The Daily Blooms puts together gorgeous floral pieces that can make themselves at home anywhere in a house or an office. Their Bloom of the Week floral arrangements also ensure that you won’t get the same flowers twice.
This Humid House
For something a little more unconventional and artsy, head to This Humid House. These one-of-a-kind pieces of artistry run the gamut from classic wedding arrangements to unique centerpieces that breathe life into any room — you’ll be the talk of the town.
The Floral Atelier
One can’t talk about premium floral arrangements without mentioning The Floral Atelier, one of Singapore’s leading bespoke florists. They create timeless custom pieces that are both elegant and romantic, beautifully meaningful gifts for the special people in your life.
Coconut Pea Flower Shortcake at Wildseed Cafe
There’s nothing quite like a themed cafe, and what better than a flower-themed one to ring in the season? Wildseed Cafe, with outlets atop the gentle hill of Telok Blangah and the countryside plains of Seletar, has a range of floral-inspired cakes and pastries that are both beautiful and delicious. Their Coconut Pea Flower Shortcake? A slice of heaven.
Cafe de Nicole's Flower
Cafe de Nicole’s Flower is a flower-filled, utterly Instagrammable spot on Telok Kurau Road to satisfy your breakfast hankerings. Opt for one of their brightly coloured specialty drinks like the Hawaii Sunset (a fruity concoction of green tea, orange juice, and passionfruit) or lychee-rose flavoured Pink Lady to accompany some hearty brunch dishes. If you’re more of a nibbler, their Afternoon Tea Set Menu is definitely one to try.
Brown Butter Café
Brown Butter Café is the place to go to experience a taste of Japan. The pastel pink, rose and sakura-filled interior of this café will transport you to the land of the rising sun — as close as we can get with travel restrictions, that is. Feast on delicious desserts, smoothies, and brunch fare at this floral paradise.
Awaken the inner floral artist in you with a Floral Crafting Workshop available on Klook. Learn to select complementary blooms and foliage to create your very own floral arrangements. Pick between crafting a jar of flowers or a garden bouquet, or for something extra special, take a trip to a nursery and before heading to the studio for a floral jamming experience.
Poppy Flora Studio
For something a little more unique, Poppy Flora Studio runs an online workshop on Botanical Watercolours, teaching you how to mix colours, use tools, and paint exquisite leaves, petals, and stems. Of course, they are also the more traditional in-person floral arrangement courses, including themed multi-session packages like A Focus on Centrepieces and Large Scale Installation.
Dried Flowers Dome Workshop
To try your hand at creating a mini-masterpiece of dried flowers and plants, opt for the Dried Flowers Dome Workshop available on Klook. Put together a one-of-a-kind collection of flower selections (with step-by-step guidance from an instructor) and create a beautiful showpiece to bring home.
