Brooklyn Bridge Park is in my opinion one of the dreamiest spots in New York City, which is why it’s always the first place I bring out-of-town visitors. It’s the classic and awe-inspiring view we’re all in love with.
The Park is always evolving – new activities and attractions have steadily been popping up over the last few years, so you can easily fill a long afternoon here - though I recommend a day so you can catch sunset with a view.
For everything the Park entails, and again there is always something new, you’d be better off checking the website, but just to name a few attractions, there are: gardens, playgrounds, soccer fields, cookout grills, an above-ground walkway, volleyball courts, and I hear rumblings of a new public pool.
Don’t miss Jane’s Carousel, which is really quite special. Built in 1922 and originally installed in Ohio, it was purchased by Jane and David Walentas at an auction in 1984. It was then completely restored to its original charm and installed in Brooklyn Bridge Park in 2011 for the public to enjoy.
The subway is our prime transportation source, but if you can get there by boat… why wouldn’t you?
In the last few years, DUMBO (short for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) has put significant effort into building up the area by creating many interactive elements in the park.
Art installation by artist Oliver Jeffers – “The world is a large and confusing place and sometimes it is important to remember the simple things. Like where you are, for example. #hereyouare”
One of the newer additions, Squibb Bridge.
Jane’s Carousel in all its restored beauty – a must-see highlight when you visit the Park.
