Are you ready to add some spice into your life? Then head on over to Kedai Kopi Yong Suan. This humble eatery is reputed to serve the best nasi ganja (weed rice) in town. But rest assured that there are no actual weed used in the cooking. It is said that this dish is so addictive that people are willing to wait in line for hours just to get a taste of it. Hence, the conception of its name.

Loyal and new visitors have been braving the queues every day to get a taste of this scrumptious dish—a fragrant plate of rice served with fried chicken, coconut sambal, chutney, and salted egg which are drenched in a combination of spicy gravy.

You can add more items onto the plate if you wish, as there are also prawns, squids and muttons available in the menu – but personally, I find it unnecessary as the gravies are best paired with the well-seasoned fried chicken. Have a taste of these explosive flavours and you will soon understand why people keep coming back for more.

Evidently, the addictive flavours are also the reason why this shop is still thriving in the same location 60 years on. The original recipe has been passed down from one generation to another in order to maintain the authentic taste.

If you do decide to dine here, I highly recommend ordering yourself an iced coffee as they use locally-farmed coffee beans to make the drink. And don’t forget to end the meal on a sweet note. Indulge in a serving or two of the silky caramel pudding. There’s always room for dessert, right?
