With an eclectic mix of vintage decors and moody lighting, the Merton Hotel is understandably a favourite amongst young and hip travellers.

But to say the design is the only winning factor here is such a huge understatement. The hotel's location is the perfect compromise for guests who want to be away from the bustling town centre but still close enough to the action.

A short drive will bring guests to some of Ipoh's most famous cave temples, including the Sam Poh Tong Temple and the Kek Lok Tong Temple. Those who are looking to explore and reconnect with nature would be pleased to know that the hotel is also close to Tasik Cermin and Gunung Lang Recreational Park.

My Premium King Room is extremely spacious and comes with a window that lets in plenty of natural light. The king bed is particularly plush and the room’s amenities are complete despite the hotel's competitively low rates. I also appreciate the minimal furnishings and decorations which gives a nod to the industrial theme; this adequately creates a comfortable space that feels oh-so edgy yet also welcoming.

Another plus point worth mentioning is that the Merton Hotel is equipped with a lift unlike many boutique hotels in Ipoh, which makes it wheelchair-friendly.

Pro tip: Book a Superior Queen with Mountain View Room to get an unobstructed view of the limestone hills.
