Dim sum is the ultimate comfort food in Ipoh. This is evidenced by the impressive selection of eateries serving the most exquisite dumplings in town.

One worthy shout out is Canning Dim Sum, which I find particularly outstanding. It is a Halal-certified restaurant that has been around since 2018, serving an extensive menu of uncompromised flavours in a small single-storey bungalow.

Once seated, guests will be approached by a staff carrying a tray ladened with beautifully presented bite-sized treats. Be prepared to eat like a horse and try as many dishes as you can until you are sated because they are all delightful and affordably-priced.

In my opinion, the cheung fun steals the show here. It is a dish made up of tender rice noodle rolls filled with either chicken or shrimp meat, and paired with an oh-so-heavenly homemade sauce.

The har gow, filled with a generous portion of juicy shrimps, is also another one of my favourites; its delicate deliciousness could even inspire poetry.
