Tucked away in the northwest Kranji countryside, away from the hustle and bustle in Singapore is Bollywood Veggies. It’s set in a rustic environment, providing visitors a different and fresh perspective of the island as they get close to nature.

Those who have a keen interest in plants can join the Bollywood farm tour, which is led by experienced guides who will share interesting facts about the plants in Bollywood Veggies. There will also be an opportunity to touch, smell and taste some of these plants. Other hands-on activities include terrarium making and rice farming.

If you do not wish to get your hands dirty but have a deep appreciation for food, join the 25-minute guided tour at the Bollywood Food Museum where 24 bespoke oil paintings show how humankind has evolved with food.

My family particularly enjoyed the farm-to-table experience at the Poison Ivy Bistro where both local and fusion cuisines were featured. Try the Nasi Lemak Platter and their signature handmade desserts such as banana bread and kueh kosui before concluding your visit.

Started by Mrs. Ivy Singh-Lim and Mr. Lim Ho Seng in 2000 as a semi-retirement project, Bollywood Veggies is a living example of how a simple ‘kampung’ lifestyle has always embodied land productivity and environmental sustainability.

Besides touring the farm, you can also spend some time building your very own terrarium which can be displayed at home.

Poison Ivy Bistro is always packed with foodies who travel across the island to get a taste of comforting local cuisine such as nasi lemak, chicken curry and otah omelette.

Herbs such as Thai Basil, Chives, Lemongrass etc can also be bought at Bollywood Veggies.

You will see the occasional tongue-in-cheek signs scattered around Bollywood Veggies, but please do not take them seriously. ;)
