Batu Caves is a limestone hill comprising a number of caves and cave temples. It has the most popular Hindu shrines dedicated to Lord Murugan outside India, and is also the focal point of the Thaipusam Festival in Malaysia.
To enter the cave, you’ll need to climb up a 272-step staircase that’s quite steep, so you’ve been warned! But I must say, the magnificent view from the top is totally worth it. Along the way up the stairs, you may spot some monkeys hanging around you, but please remember not to smile or have any interaction with them because they can get very aggressive.
If you intend to visit this place, do note that shorts, tight pants and above-knee skirts are not allowed.
Batu Caves and the Hindu Shrine.
It’s a long way up – 272 steps to be exact – but the view is magnificent.
If you’re lucky, you can spot monkeys hanging out on the stairs.
