Wake up and smell the coffee when you go café-hopping

The café scene in KL has been booming since 2015, and now it’s the best time for you to hop around different cafés while you’re here.

My favourites are Merchant Lane, Chocha Foodstore and Lim Kee Coffee in the Petaling Street area. All of them have one thing in common – they serve local fusion food, and the ambience is usually vintage with local influences.

Another area for café-hopping is Bangsar, as it is one of the most hyped places that has a booming number of cafés that are totally different from what you’ll find in Petaling Street. These cafes in Bangsar are more likely Western-influenced in terms of the food they serve as well as the interior decor.

Pulp by Papa Palheta, Naj and Belle Bangsar serve pretty decent coffee and Western food, while Kaiju serves amazing Thai-Japanese cuisine. There’s also a cake parlour called Jaslyn Cake that serves great homemade cakes and pastries.

Chocha Foodstore offers local favourites with a creative twist. This Oriental Spiced Chicken comes with charred orange and a mixed spice ulam salad.

Located in a new hotel called Tianjing Hotel, Lim Kee Café is a considerably new joint with a unique interior that has a local touch. The coffee is good and cheap, and the toast is a must-try.

Cream by The Roast Things is my favourite place to get my coffee, and they are also one of the top coffee beans roasters in KL.
