Japan Rail Cafe

 

All aboard the Japan Rail Cafe! This warmly-lit travel-themed cafe was established by East Japan Railway (JR East) to promote everything from Japanese products and food to travel journeys in the country. Expect authentic Japanese cuisine such as the Una Tama Don, seasonal dishes from different prefectures like Hokkaido’s Obihiro Buta Don and traditional Warabi Mochi for dessert. They also have counters for purchasing JR passes so you know where to go once the international borders open.

Tiong Bahru Bakery Safari

 

Instead of the wild savannahs of Africa, why not settle for an exotic glamping experience at Tiong Bahru Bakery Safari instead? Tucked away from the busy city, munch on buttery pastries in the shelter of a rustic tent with earthy colour tones and a safari-like setup. Alongside the typical offerings of pain au chocolat, raisin danishes, and caffeinated beverages, their menu features Tumeric Ginger Latte and Beetroot Roselle Latte (S$6.50 each) - colourful safari-exclusive drinks that’ll look great on the ‘gram.

Kafe UTU

 

This dual-storied café-lounge in the Keong Saik neighbourhood bursts at the seams with African decor; think boldly printed plush pillows, art-lined walls, and beautifully ornate hand-carved doors, panels and mirrors bearing ancient Lamu and Zanzibar motifs. Try their Bidi Bado “Abracadabra”, a mocha-style coffee with a rim of peanut butter, almonds and pink peppercorns. Brunch plates bring you across East and West Africa, with dishes like Carribean Goat Curry (S$28) and Curried Avocado with Raw Garlic Toast (S$16) to die for.

Five Oars Coffee Roaster

Australia doesn’t seem to be opening their doors to us anytime soon, but it doesn’t mean we can’t get Melbourne-style brunch in Singapore. Kreams Krafthouse

 

Walk into a scene right out of a Korean drama with this dreamy cafe and its brilliant foliage of autumn leaves in shades of crimson, yellow and green. Specialising in artisanal coffees and baked delicacies, patrons come flocking for the signature Dalgona Iced Latte (S$8), which took Circuit Breaker by storm. The Dry Cappuccino (S$7) is denser than most and boldly distinct in flavour. The Sweet Potato and Matcha Scones (S$7.50 each) are crumbly and mellow, perfect for afternoon tea.

Mod Cafe

 

We might not have the famous Stylenanda cafe in Singapore but we do have a cafe-cum-hair-salon in the East with soft pink walls for inspired Instagram photoshoots. Their Asian-inspired menu leans more towards the healthier side for their savoury options. Their special ‘ChouYouBing’ Waffles with melted cheese (S$9.90/S$15.90) especially makes you long for Korea. The highlights, however, remain the Cheesecake Factory Cheesecake (S$7.90) and Godiva Double Chocolate Cheesecake (S$10.90).
