The charming Star Ferry boats have been faithfully carrying passengers between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon since 1888.

Although there are faster routes to get from one side of the harbour to the other, The Star Ferry is still a favourite with locals and tourists alike as they make you slow down to appreciate one of the most famous harbours in the world.

Tip: Try and catch one just before 8pm. The ferries will stop mid-harbour for a few moments, so tourists can take pictures of the dazzling Symphony of Lights show every evening.

Still one of the most cost-effective ways (HKD3.40) to cross the harbour from Hong Kong Island to Kowloon.

Steeped in history, this quick and cheerful transit across the water still offers the best panoramic views of the city’s famous skyline.

Tip: Grab a coffee from the outpost of Japanese coffee shop Arabica, which is located inside the Ferry Terminal at Tsim Sha Tsui.

Take the time to slow down in this fast-paced city.
