Opened in 1955, this eatery right in the heart of Hanoi Old Quarters is literally a “hole in the wall”.

I find the pho here to have the best-flavoured broth and noodles that are cooked to perfection (not too mushy). These come together to make this joint my favourite place to grab a hot bowl of noodles, any-time.

With its dark dining room, stainless-steel table tops and wooden benches, it might not look like much, but prepare to be blown away by the traditional flavours of the closely guarded family recipe.

The current owner is the third-generation owner of this restaurant. He's quite young, which is interesting since most others in his age group would rather pursue a more comfortable career rather than toiling in the kitchens. Good on him! This shop was opened in 1955 by his grandfather named Thin.

The beef is boiled and chopped into perfect slices. He knows what he’s doing!

This is an original bowl of pho with beef, spring onion, soup. It is served with some chilli and lime. If you’re feeling ‘fancy', you may order eggs and some fried finger-shaped souffle to complement the dish.

Eating this never fails to make me feel like I’m home. When I go anywhere far from Hanoi, pho is all I crave. And this is by far my favourite flavour of home.

It’s a great to start your morning. A warm and very tasty bowl of pho will get you going for the rest of your day!
